Strawberry Mansion Community Development Corporation (SMCDC) is celebrating the legacy of jazz music and culture in the neighborhood by exploring possibilities for preserving and revitalizing John Coltrane Street (N. 33rd Street), home of the historic Coltrane House. The Yard, at 1515 and 1517 N. 33rd Street, provides an opportunity to create a new public outdoor space for Strawberry Mansion!

In 2023 and 2024, Strawberry Mansion CDC engaged community members at neighborhood meetings, design workshops, and a Youth Play and Learn Lab to create the plans for the first phase of improvements at the Yard. The space features playful learning elements, including musical instruments, a reading nook, and musical decals. Visitors are welcomed with shade sails and an outdoor art gallery. There is ample seating and a stage for a variety of performances.
